Dan Basom's Professional Portfolio
My name is Dan Basom and I am an 8th grade United States history teacher at Central Montcalm Middle School in Stanton, Michigan. I also coach junior varsity boys' basketball for Central Montcalm High School. I graduated from Michigan State University in the summer of 2012 with a Master's degree in Education. This portfolio will tell you a little about me and my philosophies on teaching and coaching.
Teaching
I have been a teacher at Central Montcalm Middle School (CMMS) since the fall of 2008. I have spent the past four years teaching 8th grade United States History. I enjoy working with eighth grade students because every hour of every day is unique and they are excited about learning. CMMS has a 1:1 student laptop initiative and I believe it is important to incorporate technology for use in my classroom. Edmodo and twitter are two sites I utilize to help with the organizational features of my classroom. Visit my edmodo page. Follow what is happening in my class on twitter. |
Coaching
I have been coaching boys' basketball since 2006. I have assisted with the Central Montcalm varsity team for each of the past seven seasons, under two different head coaches. I coached 8th grade basketball for three seasons and freshmen boys for one year. The past two seasons I served as the junior varsity boys' basketball coach. I enjoy coaching these young men and teaching them life lessons through the game of basketball. Below is a picture of the 2011-12 JV Hornets. Visit CM basketball on facebook.
